the brief
BUILT ON A ROOM NO ONE HAD SEEN
A five-part Instagram story countdown announcing Netsu Bar's opening at Mandarin Oriental Dubai, designed, shot, and animated before the space itself existed.
THe problem
NOTHING TO POINT A CAMERA AT
No interior, no signage, no finished space to build hype around. A straight "opening soon" post reads flat and forgettable with nothing behind it.
The Insight
LET THE MOOD ARRIVE FIRST
Build the mood before the room. Each story crops into a fragment: a shadowed profile, a glass rim, a bowl of ice, a drink caught mid-pour, so the brand arrives through color and texture first. The wordmark stays hidden until the final story, landing as a payoff instead of a label.
BUILT BEFORE THE SPACE EXISTED
MOOD OVER LOCATION
WORDMARK AS PAYOFF
FIVE-PART COUNTDOWN
netsu bar launch
01 THE STRUCTURE

The sequence follows jo-ha-kyu-kiri, the four-part pacing at the core of classical Japanese performance: a slow introduction, a turn, a rapid acceleration, and a cutting resolution. Color and tension build together through jo and ha, peak at kyu, then release at kiri. A fifth story, the master act, folds all four beats into a single frame, so the countdown reads as one continuous breath rather than four separate posts.
02 THE TYPOGRAPHY

A warm, tracked-out serif in cream sits quietly over every frame, never competing with the image underneath. The same setting across all five stories ties the countdown together as one continuous piece, regardless of where the color sits in its rise and fall.
03 the gradients

The palette darkens through jo and ha, reaching its most saturated, deepest tones at kyu, the climax, before resolving into warmer color for kiri, the conclusion. Color tracks the story's tension and release the same way the pacing does, so the eye feels the arc before the wordmark ever appears.
04 tHE IMAGEs

A shadowed profile, a glowing sphere, a glass rim catching light: each frame stays close and cropped, giving away texture and mood without ever showing the room. The bar exists in fragments before it exists in full, each fragment landing exactly where the pacing calls for it.
